A Social Media Sunset

Read Write Web:

"Social media is going to rule the Web until at least 2012 - according to a post by Justin Kistner, a Social Evangelist at web analytics company Webtrends. Kistner also claims that Facebook has become the king of social media."

This all begs the question: when do we abandon the terms and just consider this all part of the norm. When is the social media cake baked?

Social media will "verb out" pretty soon. Sooner than 2015 is my bet. Consumers will probabaly default to the word "posted" to indicate using social media, just as they defaulted to "call" back in the day rather than "telephoned." Or "wrote" rather than "sent a letter." Texted has replaced "text messaged." Consumers will decide with a little help from marketers. Question for the room: Will Tweeted be a verb that lives on? And with what meaning?
