Mind Map: Three Digital Trends for the New Decade
Three Digital Trends for the New Decade
Have you tried mind mapping? I am a mind mapping fanatic. I find that it really helps me think through challenges and develop innovative solutions. Chris Brogan too is a fan. He uses it to plot out his projects and ensure he's on target.
I have been giving a talk recently on the three key trends that marketers will need to adapt to in the new decade: 1) the move from a a web of pages to a web of streams, 2) the challenge in becoming more digitally visible in an age of too much noise and 3) the need to become more data driven in everything we do - and with a do-it-yourself attitude (DIY).
Recently I gave a talk on this topic at a conference in Amsterdam and the folks at World of Minds created a mind map of it, which you can find here (PDF) or on Scribd. What do you think of these? I love when others mind map my speeches and also large events because you get to see how others interpret your thoughts. I have long wanted to create more mind maps here. If I did, what kind of maps would be valuable? Let me know in the comments on Twitter.

I think they are valuable. You must have in mind any classification map has is own "embedded" point of view. Whoever draws that map should state the embedded point of view. From the technical point of view I think the coloring schema adds the sense of relevance of the different chunks of information
I love mindmaps. My work is more productive and especially useful when discussing ideas with others.
interesting, as i just started playing with the mind mapping app on Android
Like Chris, I'm a fan of mind maps for tracking activity over time against strategy and goals. It's a simple visual way of quickly seeing how things are progressing or not. Have tried a fair amount of tools and Mindjet in particular is great.
Steve, have you tried mind-mapping with Pearltrees?
I got a demo of it about a year ago and was impressed but I need to take another look at it.
Mindmaps are great, but massive ones like this one are quite hard to make sense of (colors help, thou)
Any other software suggestions besides Mindjet and Pearltrees?
Try Mindmeister.
Mind mapping is natural and can be done on paper. It's how we bring info into play in our minds to create.
First of all, thank you for your positive remarks. It was great to have to opportunity to make a mindmap of the keynote of Steve.I used MindManager to create the mindmap. MindMeister is a good tool for collaborating online in mindmaps. We use MindMeister when mapping during for instance TEDxAmsterdam and TEDxRotterdam.iMindMap is a great tool (also an iPhone app) to make colorful and organic mindmaps, or try the online tool Mapul. Of course there are a lot more tools available. If you're interested please let me know maybe I can help you.
