How to Bring Back the Old Facebook Feed

On Facebook a lot of my friends are lamenting last week's switch to the new new news feed. (It's now split: the news feed shows trends from friends while the live feed is real-time.) Personally, I like the change. You can pick one. You're not forced.

Still, if you want the old Facebook back, you can get it- sorta - via this tip which a friend left on my wall...

"To get the "old facebook" back. On your main screen, on your left hand side click 'more' then click and drag 'status update' to the top of the list. Then refresh your page and it should be back to normal."

Easy enough.

Does this really get the old FB back? Does the status updates option include links posted? Or wall conversations? The old FB home page did.Me? I missed the live feed when it went away and I'm thrilled it's back!

It seems to be posting links but I did notice that it does not show when one of your friends becomes friends with someone else. My guess is, it might not post any profile updates etc... either. Not that it's that important. But some people do like to see who others are becoming friends with or if they post any profile changes.

After making the change does status updates from a fan page show? Looks like they don't. *sigh*

um ya this works only for status. it does not include quizzes or app notifications. it's not normal.

Why has this become hard and convoluted? How come they can't give us ONE feed and let us choose WHO we want to know about (and opt out of those who post all the time about sneezing) and WHAT we want to see (I care about Status Updates, Photos and links. I don't care who they just friended (unless I know that person) and I don't care what they just became fans of (when I want this info, I look at their page). Suddenly I feel like I'm reading three different feeds and none of them match in real time.

what about http://lite.facebook.com/ ?This seems to show everything.

October 26, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterymc

Lite FB doesn't allow you to post links. Go figure!

October 26, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBeth Mazur

This excludes all shared photos, videos, links and events, so saying it "brings back the old facebook feed" is incorrect, unless maybe you mean the old old old old old facebook feed. ;-)

That's a good tip. But i am missing the page updates.

This morning I toggled back and forth between status updates and real-time feed on my home page. Maybe FB changed something?

You're spreading misinformation. Your claim that Status Updates will restore the status quo of the old news feed is COMPLETELY WRONG.Status updates are EXACTLY AS THEY'VE ALWAYS BEEN: they're just status lines. Anything with a link, photo, video, or note, won't be seen by reading your status updates. See here: http://www.facebook.com/help.php?page=408See here: http://thefacebookinsider.com/2009/10/how-to-set-your-facebook-news-feed-and-wall-settings/Try also here: http://www.facebook.com/note.php?saved&&suggest¬e_id=166374055239And for god's sake, QUIT SPREADING THIS MISINFORMATION!

"Anything with a link"That is, no attached links can be made with a status line; nothing can be attached to a status update.

You can hide the new annoying messages! Switch to Live Feed, use the following technique and get the almost-classic homepage:http://weaxdesign.com/blog/2009/10/28/remove-is-attending-became-fan-joined-group-and-now-friends-messages-from-facebook/

It doesn't work. Some stuff is posting on news feeds, others on photo, the rest on statues. It's ridiculous to have to go through 3 seperate links to check everything. At least the old way, if there was sdtuff I didn't want I simply hide it. That's why I moved from Myspace to Facebook, it was much simpler, now not so much...

A little more...I joined the bring back old FB page, and sent a link to all my friends. So I went to MY home, and what's this - NO FREAKING POST! Check statues page, NO FRAKING POST. Do a sample statues, yup there it is but NO FREAKING PRIOR POST! Back to feed, NO FREAKING POST!, click live news feed, WHAT THE F*** IS IT DOING THERE! and WHY DOESN'T IT SHOW ON REGULAR FEED? Absolutely sucks, will probably stop the whole FB thing.

October 28, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTim

uhhh,,,, what are you all complaining about??the 'live feed' is no different at all from what it was before. they only added things to it, they didn't take anything away. they added notifications for when people become friends or fans of things. the only difference is they removed the highlights, which sucked anyways, and added the completely useless 'news feed' as a replacement for the highlights i guess even though it appears to be arranged totally randomly. but you don't have to even use the useless 'news feed'. just use the live feed and it works perfectly, just as it did before. the only thing i can imagine anyone complaining about is the fact that they removed the highlights section.

It can't get any easier than that. Thank you. I like the old, for now :)!

October 29, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterFarnoosh Brock

Well I tried but it is impossible to move any of those kategories to the left...and I don't like the new way of news feed.

October 31, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKinna Jonsson

I quite like the "new" Facebook, because it allows three options.1. News FeedThe "new" curated feed2. Live FeedThis option needs to be modified somewhat to get the "old functionality back. Simply click "Live Feed" and then go down to "Edit Options" down the bottom. Then change the number in the field from 50 to 5000. It will then provide a full live feed of everything your friends are doing on Facebook - from links to apps to status updates.3. Status UpdatesAs you said in the post above, Steve...The thing I don't like is that Facebook hasn't made it completely obvious how to do this, so people are confused.
