Kindle Books Can Now Be Annotated on the iPhone

I have an Amazon Kindle but I never use it. However, I constantly use the iPhone Kindle reader - and it has me buying a lot more books. The Kindle Reader for the iPhone got a nice update last night (see the bottom of this page for details). It now lets you not only highlight and annotate your ebooks but also sync these back to the web, as you can see from the image above.

Unfortunately this is somewhat limited since you can't search your notes either on the web or on the phone. Barnes and Noble is coming on strong with their new Nook reader but I decided a few months ago to go 100% electronic and to get rid of all of my books in favor of ebooks from Amazon since they have the best selection. I am hopeful they will add support for other devices like Blackberries and also PC/Mac desktop readers as well.

The Kindle feels like it should be less a device and more of a platform. However, good search is a must and it's still missing for now from non-Amazon devices.

Hey Steve, I'm sure you're aware but you can browse (not search) the notes and annotations at http://kindle.amazon.com/. Seems "good enough" for most times I need to find something...

Do you like the Kindle? Do you prefer it to a good book that you can hold and read? I am all about technology, I crave it, I majored in it, I supported it, I live and breathe it but books. I love my books. I love to just feel a book and not something hard like the Kindle. Am I old fashioned? I haven't made the switch and I read voraciously, so it might save me money but that is not a priority if it will replace the experience.

Hmmm. Maybe I was too quick to judge the kindle..........I know it's different from the laptop feel. I'll need to test it out and read a few pages of Jane Austen to see how I feel :)! Thanks Steve!

Kindle books look better on the IPhone than on Kindle, in this case Kindle sales are drop since everyone with an IPhone will not buy a Kindle.Or is Amazon going to price the 'Kindle for IPhone' app at the price of Kindle?
