Google Instant Makes SEO Irrelevant

Google today launched an ambitious effort to speed up searching. But what they really did is kill SEO.

Google says:

"Google Instant is a new search enhancement that shows results as you type. We are pushing the limits of our technology and infrastructure to help you get better search results, faster. Our key technical insight was that people type slowly, but read quickly, typically taking 300 milliseconds between keystrokes, but only 30 milliseconds (a tenth of the time!) to glance at another part of the page. This means that you can scan a results page while you type."

The most important consideration for marketers or anyone who creates content, however, is in the bullets...

"Smarter Predictions: Even when you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for, predictions help guide your search. The top prediction is shown in grey text directly in the search box, so you can stop typing as soon as you see what you need."

Here's what this means: no two people will see the same web. Once a single search would do the trick - and everyone saw the same results. That's what made search engine optimization work. Now, with this, everyone is going to start tweaking their searches in real-time. The reason this is a game changer is feedback. When you get feedback, you change your behaviors.

Think about it. When you push a door and it doesn't open quickly, you push harder. When you try to drive a car up a hill and it doesn't go as fast as you would like, you step on the gas. Feedback changes your behavior.

Google Instant means no one will see the same web anymore, making optimizing it virtually impossible. Real-time feedback will change and personalize people's search behaviors.

::LATER: Google is saying expect traffic fluctuations around organic keywords.

Since Google Instant Search introduced, I have taken part in many debates about the effect of Google Instant Search on SEO. But finally it has confirmed that SEO has no any danger from Google Instant because Google changed its search method, not its searching algorithm.

That's very good news: in that case those like me who invested exclusively in high-quality content and frequent, constant updating will be rightfully prized. Thank you for sharing it with us!

... far more than an award-winning project studio, we're a lodge, a mastering facility, an indie label (ver 2.0), a music publishing and mp3 download site, a CD shop , a rehearsal venue and an events coordinator situated just outside Knysna on a farm in rural paradise. (http://www.thestudio.co.za) We have a variety of direct to disk recorders, analogue tape recorders (2", 1" and 1/2" tape), quality microphones, instruments and gear to materialize your project. So whether its a jingle you need, an album you want to record/publish or perhaps sound for film and video we can offer an inspiring space and a creative team to make it happen. What can we do to set our recording studio websites up Google pages. Http://www.homegrownmusic.co.za

This sarcasm?

If Google Instant is using the most popular phrases that match what you started to type, then basically what you search for and see right away is influenced by popularity of others. You type one or two words and instead of seeing results for those two words you wanted to type, you automatically get shown the results for something else you weren't looking for that matched based on popular majority of others who actually hit Search button. This skips the showing of the correct Ads and Results for the persons initial intention. But if you are using Google Insight and choosing keywords for ads and content relevant to you but popular I can see this as an improvement to almost forcing others to searching the popular phrase you wrote your page against, instead of the shorter phrase they intended to type.

I still believe that It's best to be on the "frontpage", eventhough scrolling becomes faster and easier. Also online visbility will remain important - and that goes along with SEO (I mean linkbuilding, social media etc.) Best regards

As long as Search Engines Exist, SEO industry will never cease to be irrelevant, it will just evolve with the time and new developments.Period.

I'm not so sure if I like the new instant search feature. I almost liked typing in my own keywords and pressing enter by myself... I'm not really the type that needs to have something done for me. Plus it seems a bit messy... sometimes I wish Google wouldn't change things so abruptly all the time.

Common guys, believe or not - the algorithm has changed now. Not by a huge percentage but it will impact results. The reason we are not experiencing any differences in ranking is that Google instant is still using old data and references. Once, the new Instant bot crawls all the Web in 2 months or so, look at the difference in Google ranks for all the old sites and pages. U will then see the reality. Believe me, I have a insight into Google's Team. Don't believe, i will be posting a article (a proof) of how google instant alogirthm has a update (or a change) at www.howgoogleranks.com

as long as their is a cat their is almost always a way to skin it. if not then cat may not be as good as it used ot be. Google understands that they have to evolve but the evolution will be for better search and that means that the most relevant results show up. It keeps coming back to relevant content and relevant links. If your site is worth looking at then google will rank it.

I am agree with you, now its very tough situation of search engine optimizer to understand keyword where people will stop for your product, and also it more tough to target small keywords as well as without meaningful keywords. When i wen to search website for software outsourcing i found the google instant results just come when i wrote "software out" how can i target software out to get high ranked. Google shown results at without meaningful search terms.

As long as the search operates on a digital algorithm, there will be people gaming it.
