Charticle: The Death of the Print Newspaper

The Mint blog has compiled in one place a wealth of data about the decline of the print newspaper. The data points come from the Newspaper Association of America and Bloomberg.

Curiously the data doesn't include aggregate figures from Mint users - which conceivably they can compile by looking at payments to newspaper delivery companies and the like. It would have been interesting to see how this trend is sliced among Mint users, who are more tech savvy.

The full size infographic is here. Highlights below via Mint.

My client ARAnet released the results of a media-usage survey today that echoes this info. The study found that we're increasingly turning to online and radio sources for news and information, while relying less on daily newspapers and TV. Daily newspaper usage dropped 4.1 percent over last year’s survey. http://bit.ly/eccQ4

Newspapers are looking at new models, with increased focus on Web content and using their distribution systems for delivering more than the printed version (and at lower costs than the postal service). An LA Times writer provided insights Wednesday on how this works, with 10 to 15 times more space for news on the Web, coverage of areas that might have been neglected before and reaching new audiences. I blogged about the Web evolution; more news, faster; and more PR opportunities. As a former journalist, my morning ritual includes reading four newspapers and I see tht continuing, despite the doomsayers. http://bit.ly/uFVeT
